Indira Gandhi Medical
College came into existence in the Year 1966 with intake capacity of 50
admissions for MBBS Course which was subsequently increased to 65. The
students are advised on the basis of entrance test conducted by H. P. University. The college is affilated to the H.P.University Shimla. There are 31 specialised departments functioning in the IGMC with 260 strong teaching faculty. Post graduate courses
in 16 specialities and PG diploma courses in 8 specialities with intake
capacity of 35 seats in degree and 18 seats in diploma courses is conducted
every year. Modern medical facilities in Medicine, Chests & TB, Surgery,
Cardiology, Radiotheraphy, Neurology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatrics Surgery,
Obst & Gynae, Neo-notology, Urology, Neuro-Surgery, Gastroentology, ENT
Radiology, Orthopaidics and ophthalmology are also available in the institute
which are of all India level. This college is also imparting training to Nurses, Radiographers, O.T. Assistants, Para Medical Ophthalmic Assistants and Laboratory Technicians. Indira Gandhi Medical college is one of the few colleges in India to have fiber optic endoscopy and C.T. Scan equipment. Closed heart surgery including pace maker insertain is
also available. This college also provide cath Lab in department of cardiology
Dialysis facilities. The AIDS Survelance centre is located in the department
of Microbiology.
