Rampur
Rampur was once the capital of the princely state of Bushair and major centre on the old trade route of the Tibet. Rampur located on the bank of river satluj which starts from Mansarover in tibet and crosses the indian border at the shipki pass. West of the town there are the wide terrraces of the satluj upto tattapani where the hot spring are situated. The annual Lavi fair held in second week of November is still an very important event for the people of the region. During this fair the town is festive with trade, cultural and sports activities. The inhabitants of the region gather here to buy,sell and barter their produce - raw wool, shawls and handicrafts along with dry fruits,chilgoza almonds etc. Rampur is around 140 km from Shimla. A night halt for trekkers to Kinnaur, the land of kinners, here are a Buddhist Monastary with a huge prayer wheel and a Hindu temple both visited by thousands of devotees every year. |
