Himachal Pradesh came in news in 1984 when an international Hang Gliding Rally was organized at Billing, a place 20 km away from Palampur in Kangra district where some expert hang gliders of the world participated. They rated this place as one of the best in the world. Mr. Keith Nichols, Director of the United States Hang Gliding Association, who himself had flown in most of the countries of the world, also supports this contention and says that "Billing is probably the best site he had ever seen. He recomended that the world class competitions can be organized here and most of the pilots would love to fly in the Western Himalaya". Hang Gliding is the result of long hard work, research and continuous struggle of a man to realise  his dream to fly like a bird in the sky.
