Meeting of medicinal plant board held
A meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Medicinal Plant Board was held at Keylong today. Deputy Commissioner R. Selvam presided over the meeting.
He said that there was immense scope for cultivation of herbal plants in the Lahaul Spiti district and a project worth about Rs. 15 crore to promote cultivation of herbal plants would be prepared and submitted to the State Medicinal Board for approval soon. Appropriate storage and marketing facilities would be ensured under the project in order to facilitate the farmers, he added.
He said that cultivation of herbal plants in a planned manner would not only increase the production but also profit. He said that there was a good market for the crops being grown in the area and added that identification of new areas for cultivation of herbal plants should also be done. He directed the Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture departments to hold awareness camps for farmers to encourage them in cultivation of herbal plants.
Dr. Dinesh, OSD Ayurveda and Nodal Officer HP State Herbal Plant Board, Dr. Yuvraj, Project Officer, Herbal Garden and Harbarium, Jogindernagar and officials of various departments were also present in the meeting.
