Himachal Pradesh Government authorities destroyed large tracts of cannabis cultivation to prevent illegal narcotic trade, which covers an area of 3,000 acres of land in Malandar forest.
Around 250 personnel belonging to the state police, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh and customs officials raided the forest areas of the Kullu valley. The process was carried out for two weeks by Himachal Pradesh Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Cannabis cultivated in more than 3,000 bighas of land were destroyed. Altogether 250 people were involved in destroying the same. The first phase also involved people from customs department. This is for the first time that government have destroyed cannabis cultivation spread over such a huge area.
A surprising fact unearthed was that Cannabis was cultivated in heavily forested area instead of the usual Government land or private land.
Police have destroyed cannabis in large areas of private and forest land worth billions of rupees during the past three years. |
