Wedding is an important ceremony in Himachal. Match-maker is known as Roovary, Dhamu or Mazomi. When the suitable match is settled, Tika is sent. The groom and his family are invited to tea. On this occasion, ritual songs are sung and sweets are distributed.

In the tribal areas, both the parties exchange Chhang (rice wine) and close relatives are invited to participate in the ceremony. Sweets are distributed among them. All the preparations for the wedding are kept secret from the bride.

Marriage customs differ from place to place in Himachal. The bride and the groom are carried in palanquins except in the Lahaul area. At the time of the wedding, the Suhagi jewellery is presented by the Mama. The groom's family displays their gifts called Barasuhi to the bride, to others so that they may judge their financial status. When the marriage party returns with the bride, it is greeted by the fellow villagers holding torches. Goats are also sacrified to ward off evil spirits.

When the bride enters the new household, a special Havan is performed under the guidance of the family priest. The bride and the groom cook kheer (rice pudding) and it is served to all the assembled relatives. Feroni is the ritual return of the bride after her first visit from her father's house-also known as Dwiragaman. The marriage as an institution, is an very important event in the life of a person. It is the beginning of a new branch in the family tree. The original tree, to my mind, if we consider the origin of the human, is one and the same. However, the marriage as institution now, is the license for legal pro-creation. Therefore, any ceremony, any custom, any which way one celebrates, is ultimately, the legal pro-creation which is acceptable to the community.

Any way the forum has created a cryptic reference to various shades of marriage in Himanchal Pradesh. I am delibrately giving a new spell for Himachal which is what actually should be. Megri has lit the spark. Let us Himachalis now respond and enrich this forum. Please participate.

Hi, I couldn't understand clearly But I understand Some logic. I am from Las Vegas. And I love to Jeck Martin. We want marriage in Indian Style. But When I read this style It is Fantastic. And we would like to marry in Himachal Style.
