Rocky Mountain in Lahaul

Rock climbing is becoming popular in India now.Many mountaineering clubs in the country are imparting training to the novice.The Indian Mountaineering Foundation is also organizing camps for advance rock climbing training at different places in the country to encourage the youth. Since it is a part of any expedition,the mountain climbing enthusiasts have to learn and practice this game before he can think of joining the expedition.Himachal Pradesh being a hilly state has the best rocks and rock climbing areas spread all over the state.The best thing is the availability of all rock features like - slabs.chimneys,walls and overhangs at almost all the places.The mountaineering Institute has branches at Dharashala,Bharmour,Narkanda and Jispa where training on the rocks is imparted.those who do not have the time or opportunity can learn it from the books.The state of Himachal is surrounded by four major ranges of Himalayas .he peaks of inner Himalayas and the Pir Panjal range are over 6000 meters.These ranges provides a excellent gear for Rock climbing and mountaineering. The area around Manali  is a main area of mountaineering in Himachal. The Deo  tibba 6000 meters and hanuman Tibba 5930 meters around Manali are suggested for beginners as well as for professional .The Chandra Bhaga ranges ,the Pir Panjal ranges and Dhauladhar ranges are an existing focus.The institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports at Manali and its branch at Dharamshala, offer the activity. Courses are also available with the institute.
